In 2003, Bishop Brooks, the Michigan/Canadian Council of Bishops, and the Association of COGIC Business Owners (ACBO), joined forces to prepare for the 90th Anniversary of the establishment of the Church of God in Christ in Michigan and in Canada. Over 30 committees, comprised of over 200 people, worked unselfishly to get it all in place for the 2004 celebration in Detroit.
Bishop G.E. Patterson was the keynote speaker. Mother Willie Mae Rivers addressed the crowd, as did the Governor of Michigan and the Mayor of Detroit. It was an overwhelming success. DVD Video and the official journal are available. Call (313) 835-5329 or log on to www.nspt.org, or www.cogicmica.org. |

| It was the greatest tragedy on American soil in the last 100 years. Almost 3,000 people were killed (more than the 2,500 killed at Pearl Harbor). Those families were obviously devastated, and the government responded by paying them up to $4 million dollars each for the deaths of their loved ones. But there was another group of people that had been forgotten.
Ready to respond whenever there is a need, Bishop Brooks saw the plight of that other group of people. They were the people who lost their livelihood as a result of the disaster. Cooks, waiters, janitors, etc., had no relief program. Bishop Brooks spearheaded a fundraising effort and along with the Michigan/Canadian Council of Bishops (COGICMiCa), presented monies to those destitute families. Bishop A.M. Smith (Great Lakes Michigan #2), Bishop E.J. Wright (Southwest Michigan #2) and Bishop E.A Lawrence (Canada/Michigan) attended the presentation in New York with Bishop Brooks. The woman highlighted (arrow) was actually pulled from the rubble of the disaster. |
